ATSF Phoenix Division

The Santa Fe Railway, Phoenix Division was planned to link Phoenix to
the ATSF lines in southern New Mexico to create a transcontinental route
between California and Texas.  It provided a crossing of the continental
divide with the lowest grades in the US.  The railroad also includes the
ATSF line from Ash Fork to Wickenburg (Pea Vine) which connects Phoenix
to the north east. Branch lines connect to the mining town of Superior
and Tucson where there is an interchange with the Southern Pacific.  A
narrow gauge railroad runs from an interchange in Flagstaff through
several small towns to the mines in Jerome.
